Radio Golf New Haven Theatre reviews
Cats is energetic!
I have seen this show when it came to Chicago all these many years ago so it was with great anticipation that I took my friend to see it last night. The dancing is superb, however, the show is too long. The audience was appreciative and then we had more of the same number. Not needed. The singing is spectacular and the show is too long. I also felt that there was an element of "fire" missing from many of the performances....very fine on a technical, professional level, but that "first time" energy was not there as much as it should have been. It seemed as if the number reached a high point, the audience was noticeably restless as repititions within dance sequences went on with no real reason. Does this production take one's breath away? No. Given the material, it should have. Is it worth seeing. Of course. Costumes, the set, the light design are dazzling and what's not to love about T.S. Eliot's poetry?
